The BEYOND CAPITAL project will produce 4 project results:
PR1: Multi-method, iterative and user-centered needs assessment for the next generation of social enterprises
PR2: BEYOND CAPITAL Training curriculum for social entrepreneurs and managers
PR3: Open guide for VET providers
PROJECT RESULT 1
Multi-method, iterative and user-centered needs assessment for the next generation
PR1 will take the form of a transnational research report that will present the findings of a need assessment that will be used to develop a curriculum (PR2) that will meet the learning needs of participants.
More specifically, PR1 will:
Inform traditional banks about the limitations of social enterprises in order to increase the availability of debt finance to social entrepreneurs
Allow social finance providers to gain insight into the finance gaps left by traditional banks in order to adjust their offer accordingly
Improve civil servants' understanding of policy options in the context of the social enterprise ecosystem in order to improve institutional decisions
PROJECT RESULT 2
BEYOND CAPITAL Training curriculum for social entrepreneurs and managers
The training curriculum (PR2) will be focused on:
In addition, the training materials will result in significant changes in the networks of partner organisations on both a local and international level. The training course will follow the ECVET technical framework and use a blended methodology that includes face-to-face and Work-Based Learning activities as well as online resources.
PROJECT RESULT 3
Open Guide for VET Providers
PR3 will be a digital trainer's manual, a comprehensive manual for designing, developing, and delivering effective and engaging financial training for early-stage social entrepreneurs and managers. Throughout PR3, the trainer is depicted as someone who can impart information, facilitate learning, stimulate thought, and engage participants through active training. Active training shifts the focus from the trainer to the learner. Active training, in particular, is based on the assumptions that learning is an active endeavor and that different people learn in different ways. Given PR2's inquiry-based, learner-directed instructional strategy, this type of training approach appears especially appropriate. The ultimate goal of PR3 is to support trainers in enabling social entrepreneurs and managers to act in innovative and enterprising ways, especially when it comes to financial planning.
PROJECT RESULT 4
PR4 will take the form of a social finance Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) offered for free through Beyond Capital project. The MOOC will expand on the course curriculum that has been piloted and validated (PR2). The MOOC will cover key aspects of social finance, which is an umbrella term for financial management, products, and services with a positive social, environmental, or sustainability impact, such as social banking, impact finance, and microfinance. PR4 will consist of video lessons, readings, and assessments that will take up to 80% of the learners' time.
The Beyond Capital MOOC will be structured as follows:
Module 1 - Social enterprises, management and operation: how to combine social and economic value.
Module 2 - Creating the strategic plan and building a finance function for early stage enterprises: need analysis, financial planning, and management.
Module 3 - Financing the social enterprises: internal sources and external sources, conventional and non-conventional funding, troubleshooting.
Module 4 - Social Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics: approaches and best practices.
